Well everyone, despite all odds, I made it (in one piece) to London! After months of preparation, I’m living in a flat located in central London just moments from The Center Point (I can see it out the window).
My flat is long and narrow with slanted ceilings… It is the first time that I can remember being thankful for my height! The boys keep hitting their heads on things, and I’m too short (: Finally! Being short has its advantage. Its worth noting that we live in the penthouse! (Basically this means we were the lucky souls that got to lug our 50 pound suitcases up four VERY steep flights of stairs and get to walk those very same stairs at LEAST three times a day- who needs a gym membership after that??)
All of you might also like to know that currently I am living in a building that is older than my (our) COUNTRY. No big deal!
On to my experiences! I feel like I’ve seen only a fraction of the beautiful city since I arrived, and I cannot wait to explore even more! Big Ben, Covent Gardens, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace (AKA my future home) are a few of the highlights. This does not even take into account the little pubs, restaurants, churches, and stores I have explored that make the city so wonderful!
One word describes London pretty well: expensive. It costs about $1.62 for every one pound, so things add up quickly! Also, there are no Wal-Marts or Targets to go buy household items like tupperware or storage bins. In fact we had to walk over a mile to get a hamper, dish towels, and a bathmat! Regardless, we’ll stay on the hunt, and I’ll let you know if we find anything.
So far the experience has been amazing, but I’m ready for classes to start. My body is begging for a routine, and I think after classes start, it will have one. My body is also begging for sweet tea, but unfortunately, I have a better chance of finding Chick-fil-A first. (God bless the south!) Well, that’s all for now, but expect to hear from me a lot (:
