Today we had Statistics again today (no surprise) but then after Stats we had some free time so we went with the FSU people to go the ice-skating rink in the courtyard of the Somerset House. I didn’t ice-skate on account I’m a little afraid of people losing their balance (and me losing mine with my luck), but I watched others skate and took a lot of pictures.
I had never heard of this place before but when we got there it was beautiful and the gallery was fantastic to walk through! Honestly the House itself was like a piece of art so I ended up taking a lot of pictures of the architecture. Apparently someone really rich and important lived there at some point.
After the museum (which was rather small, but had some amazing stuff), I waited around for a while but didn’t see anyone I recognized so I ended up walking back to the flats by myself and got to kind of explore some of the shops and find my way back (it wasn’t that far). I didn’t buy anything (still trying to ration the money), but I enjoyed just looking at some of the wares a little closer. Everything is rather pricey here, but I’m sure I’ll end up bringing things home. 🙂
You know, I realized this morning that I’ve been here for a week, and it’s strange because I already feel kinda like I belong. I go to the grocery store and the pharmacy to pick up my odds and ends; I’m starting to figure out my way around the area around my flat; and I have to say I’m really starting to get a hang of the accent ;).
I’m really enjoying just being in London. I feel like this city just speaks to me. All of the architecture is so old and yet it works so seamlessly with the new. I’m so in love with the tiny shops and the people and the craziness of the roads. And the people are so nice and friendly, all the brits I’ve met have been more than willing to tell you about their culture and ask about mine. I just love it.
But I just wanted to update you guys. 🙂
