Well, we’re officially in week 3 of our London adventure! So many things have happened since I got here, and I could tell you all about them! BUT I feel like my pictures on Facebook tell a lot of my stories, so I am going to tell you a little about the things I now appreciate SO MUCH since I left America.
Number One: I appreciate a functional shower with consistent water pressure and temperature.
Something a bit odd to be number one on the list right? Well, let me tell you about the shower FACILITY in my flat. For starters, there’s one… for seven people. The thing that holds the shower head up is broken, so when you get in, you have to hold it with your hand… the whole time… or the water stops. In fact, even when you hold it up, the water will still stop. Just stop! In the middle of washing your hair… so then you have to go to the sink (which is like a trinkle of water) to finish washing your hair… I speak from experience! And then the water temperature is as fickle as the running water!
“It’s hot then it’s cold, it’s yes then it’s no, it’s on then it’s off…”
This is our life.
Number two: I appreciate Ritz crackers.
Ever gone on a journey to find Ritz crackers only to get lost and be gone for almost an hour only to not succeed in finding any? I have. Enough said.
Number three: I appreciate living in a building with no mice.
His name is Bernard, and he eats our garbage. He’s a cute little thing. Grey and small. But still, there are seven people living here, Bernard makes eight… and then of course there’s someone else living here too… which brings me to the next thing I appreciate…
Number four: Living in a building that isn’t haunted.
Our ghost makes nine living in Flat 13! One night Laura, Kayla, and I were all laying in bed trying to go to sleep when our closed door flew open and then slammed. We all thought it was weird, but ignored it… until it happened again. Then I decided I would be brave! I jumped out of bed and moved my hamper in front of the door… Apparently I thought my dirty clothes would scare the ghost away, and it worked… Which led me to the decision to do my laundry (That and I ran out of t-shirts) On a different night, the squeaky door that separates our living room from the hallway was open and closing on its own.
Number five: Elevators
Every day, at least three times a day, I have to climb four STEEP staircases (76 steps) to get to my room. I think I mentioned this in my last blog… So I’m just making sure I emphasize that, even after two full weeks, it hasn’t gotten any easier.
Number six (and the last one of the night): I appreciate the South in general.
Chick-fil-A. Sweet tea. Mayfield. SEC football. The mountains. The crazy, unpredictable weather. Southern gentlemen. The South is just a wonderful place. And being away from it, even though I am in a BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC city, really makes me appreciate the beauty and simplistic nature of it all.
That’s all for tonight folks! Hope you enjoyed my blog (:
