My fellow GLSer’s and I arrived in England a few days ago, but it is still hard to grasp the fact that all of us will be here for an entire semester. So far the hardest part has been buying everything that I need in order to really feel at home. I can no longer count my trips to Sainbury’s on one hand. Every time I return to the flat from the store, I think of something else I need to buy. Thankfully, the walk to Sainbury’s is very short. 🙂 The hardest item to find in London has been clothing hangers, believe it or not. Most stores near the study center don’t have them, and when you do find a store that sells them, they are out because there are so many other students here. However, there is a neat little store called Argo’s that should have a shipment in this week.
Of course, I’m not just in London to buy things; I’m also here to see the sites. One night me and a few GLSer’s made our way to Trafalgar Square and took some photos (with some navigation difficulties along the way). Another night, we went to Covent Garden, looked at all the shops in the area, which were quite tempting, and ate at a great (but slightly expensive) Mexican restaurant. Yesterday, I took a walking tour of Bloomsbury with students who are staying in the FSU London Study Centre, ate fish and chips with a friends, and then did some shopping.
My goals for this week are to FINALLY track down some hangers so I can organize my things, take a trip to the British Museum, and enjoy my first week of Statistics.
